ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Shohei Ohtani earned another win on the mound despite giving up five runs in a nightmare fourth inning, and he also tripled, doubled and singled in the Los Angeles Angels’ 8-7 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Thursday.Ohtani (4-0) had his rockiest start in recent memory, yielding at least five runs and two homers for the first time in 18 starts since last July while also hitting a career-high three batters with pitches.Nearly all of the two-way superstar’s trouble occurred in the fourth, after he had thrown three perfect innings. Ohtani’s struggles were preceded by a breakdown in his PitchCom system, which he uses in lieu of traditional catcher-to-pitcher signals, but both Ohtani and manager Phil Nevin said those problems weren’t the main factor while Ohtani allowed seven baserunners, threw two wild pitches and lost a 5-0 lead.“He’s human,” Nevin said. “I kind of had to go up and down the dugout after the next half-inning, because it was...Carolina Panthers select Alabama quarterback Bryce Young with No. 1 pick in the NFL draft

Four Boston police officers were acquitted Thursday in a case linked to what prosecutors had described as an overtime pay scam. Timothy Torigian, Robert Twitchell, Henry Doherty and Kendra Conway were initially charged in 2020 along with five other officers. Charges were dropped against one officer, while four others pleaded guilty. The Department of Justice announced new charges in February of this year through a superseding indictment against Torigian, Twitchell, Doherty and Conway. The officers were accused of collectively embezzling more than $200,000 in overtime pay for hours they did not work.Lawyers for Torigian, Twitchell, Doherty and Conway told jurors they didn’t dispute the officers were paid for overtime hours they didn’t work. They said, though, that officers were also just following longstanding overtime procedures accepted by the Boston Police Department. The jury ultimately found the officers not guilty on conspiracy and fraud charges. How Lamar Jackson went from demanding to be traded to landing a lucrative 5-year deal with the Ravens

How did we get here? It’s a question that 56 days ago had a drastically different meaning than it does now. On March 2, Lamar Jackson told the Ravens that he wanted to be traded. Now he’s the highest-paid quarterback in the NFL in terms of average annual salary after agreeing to a five-year extension with Baltimore worth a reported $260 million, including $185 million guaranteed.“For the last few months there’s been a lot of he say, she say, a lot of nail-biting, a lot of head scratching going on,” Jackson said in a video message posted to the Ravens’ social media account shortly after the news broke. “But for the next five years, there’s a lot of ‘Flock’ going on.”How things went from a two-years-long stalemate over a long-term contract to a smiling Jackson in the back seat of a Bentley might seem surprising, but there were breadcrumbs along the way, starting with how the Ravens reacted when Jackson revealed his trade...Chicago Bears trade down again and select Tennessee offensive tackle Darnell Wright with the No. 10 pick in the NFL draft
